Several things can cause breast discomfort whether it be breast feeding, menopause, a benign lump or premenstrual swelling. This nagging pain can keep a woman from a much needed sleep, an active lifestyle or cause anxiety. Fortunately, there are several natural methods of dealing with breast discomfort that are easy to do at home.
Step 1
Change what you eat and drink. Stay away from highly salted foods that increase bloating and increase fiber to metabolize more estrogen out of the body. Don't have any coffee or other items with caffeine including chocolate. Anecdotal reports show that breast discomfort gets measurably better after women have taken all caffeine out of their diet.
Step 2
Massage or use castor oil to break up congestion in the breast. Soap the breasts and rotate the fingers on the surface in circles, then press the breasts in and up. Use castor oil soaked in a folded wool cloth with a hot water bottle on top as a compress. The castor oil can also be applied topically but be careful to keep from staining clothes or furniture.
Step 3
Take the right vitamins. Vitamin C and foods rich in vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and B vitamins are regulators of the production of prostaglandin E. Prostaglandin E prohibits prolactin, which is a hormone that activates breast tissue that can result in pain.
Step 4
Remember to notify your doctor if you do find a lump that is causing discomfort. Your doctor may do a biopsy or draw out of a fluid-filled cyst for testing.
